This Tanzania safari takes you into the heart of the world-famous Serengeti National Park to witness one of the nature’s greatest events the wildebeest Migration. Every year, more than two million wildebeests, zebras and antelopes move across Serengeti looking for the fresh grass and water. This safari is designed to give you the best chance of seeing river crossings, big cats and many other wildlife species that make Serengeti one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti national park.

On the 1st day of the safari, your will be picked by your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris from your hotel in Arusha or from the airport and then brief you about your safari. After the briefing you will start the long but scenic drive toward Serengeti National Park. The journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley and then past the beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands. Along the way, you will enjoy views of Maasai villages, rolling hills and many others.

As you enter Serengeti, you will immediately see herds of zebras, wildebeest and antelopes grazing across the open plains. Depending on the season, your guide will drive you directly to the area where the migration is most active, either the central Serengeti, western corridor, or Northern Serengeti. After a short game drive, you will head to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full day tracking the wildebeest migration in Serengeti.

On the 2nd day of the safari, this is day dedicated to search for the wildebeest migration. After an early breakfast, you head out for a full day game drive. The migration moves throughout the year, and your guide uses his experience and up to date information to locate the hers.

You many see thousands of animals moving together in long lines, feeding, or resting before crossing rivers. Where there are many herbivores, predators are always close by, so you have the to see lions, cheetahs, hyenas and vultures following the herds. You will enjoy a picnic lunch under a shade tree or near a viewpoint, then continue your afternoon game drive until evening. This is one of the best days for wildlife action and photography. Later you will head to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 3: Wildebeest River crossing (seasonal).

On the 3rd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. If you are travelling during the river crossing season, usually from July to October you will spend this day at the Mara River or Grumeti River, waiting to witness the dramatic movement of wildebeest as they jump into the water while avoiding crocodiles.

This is one of the most exciting wildlife moments in the world. Even outside the river-crossing season, the Northern and Western Serengeti are fill of wildlife. You may also spot leopards resting in acacia trees, cheetahs spotting their prey, giraffes walking gracefully across the open landscapes, and elephants feeding on the acacia leaves. Your game drives continue throughout the day, with breakfast for meals and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Serengeti Game drive and return towards Ngorongoro area.

On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast, you enjoy another game drive in Serengeti giving you one more chance to see the migration herds before leaving the park, Morning is a great time for spotting predators that are still active after a night of hunting.

As you drive out of Serengeti, you may come across buffaloes, zebras, jackals and large bird species like eagles or ostriches. You then begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Then once you arrive, you will have enroute game viewing until you arrive to your lodge and then check in for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater tour and return to Arusha.

On the final day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and descent into the famous Ngorongoro crater, often called the “Garden of Eden” because of its rich wildlife and beautiful scenery.

The crater is a home of elephants, lions, rhinos, hyenas and many species of birds. You will enjoy a half-day game drive on the crater floor and a picnic lunch near the hippo pool. After exploring the wonderful crater, you return to Arusha, which marks the end of your unforgettable safari adventure.
