Day 1: Arrival and fly to Serengeti National Park.

On the 1st day of the safari, your safari begins with an early morning flight from Arusha (or Kilimanjaro) directly to an airstrip in Serengeti National Park. This specific airstrip can be in Ndutu (South), Seronera (Central) or Kogatende (north) will be pre-selected based entirely on the confined location of the migration during your travel dates.

Upon landing, your expert safari guide from African Vacation Safaris will meet you and welcome you about the safari and then game drive begins immediately as you transfer to your mobile or permanent tented camp that is strategically located to follow the herds. After a quick lunch at the camp, you will go on a first intensive game drive, specifically focusing across the vast plains where millions of animals are grazing, or looking out the area where large columns of animals are congregating. Later be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full day tracking the Great Migration.

On the 2nd day of the safari is dedicated to tracking and observing the wildebeest migration. After an early breakfast, you will meet your safari guide and head out with a picnic lunch to spend the entire day on the park. Your guide will interpret the signs, movements and communication of the animals to position you for the best impressive views. If you are traveling during the wet season (January to March) you witness the emotional and dramatic calving season in the southern Serengeti/ Ndutu plains, where half a million new calves are born within few weeks.

If you are traveling during the dry season (July to October) the focus takes you to the thrilling river crossings in the Grumeti or Mara Rivers in the north, where the wildebeest face waiting crocodiles. This full, flexible day ensures you cover increased ground to be in the heart of the action, experiencing the size and sound of the mega herds. Later transfer to the lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

You will spend the day exploring the area’s kopjes (rocky outcrops) and river systems, which are favourite resting spots and hunting viewing points for leopards and cheetahs. This ay offers a contrast to the high-energy herding, focusing on the intimate details of predator prey interaction. In the late afternoon, you will enjoy the game drive before returning to your accommodation for a celebratory dinner, sharing stories of the vast landscapes and epic wildlife dramas witnessed.
