Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival and direct transfer to Serengeti national park.
On the first day of the safari, your safari begins early with a driver or short flight from Arusha/Kilimanjaro to Serengeti National Park. For a short safari like this, flying directly into one of the Serengeti’s central airstrips is highly recommended, as it saves significant driving time. Upon arrival, you will meet your professional driver guide from African Vacation Safaris and then immediately begin your first afternoon game drive en-route to your camp.
To ensure you are close to the action, your accommodation will be a Mobile Tented Camp or a permanent lodge located to track the migration. The location of your camp (north, south or central) will depend entirely on the time of the year you travel, as the herds move continuously.
You will spend the afternoon looking for the vast columns of wildebeests, zebras along with the accompanying predators like lions and cheetahs. After a thrilling introduction to the plains, you will arrive at your camp for a welcome dinner and a briefing on the incredible sights awaiting you.
Day 2: Full day tracking the Great Migration and predators.
On the second day of the safari, this is the core of your safari, dedicated to a full day of game driving focused on the wildebeest migration. Depending on the season your guide will take you to the critical areas;
Northern Serengeti (August to October); this is focused on the dramatic Mara River crossings where the herds face the challenge of the crocodiles and then strong currents.
Southern Serengeti/Ndutu (December to March); this is focused on the calving season, a period when the hundreds of thousands of calves are born, attracting a high concentration of the predators.
Central/ Western Serengeti (April to July); this is focused on the transition zones as the herds gather and begin their movement north.
Your expert guide will use their knowledge to predict movements and position the vehicle for the best views. Besides the massive herds, you will focus on spotting the big cats like lions’ prides, solitary leopards, and fast running cheetahs who follow the migration closely for easy hunting opportunities. You will enjoy a picnic lunch out on the plains, increasing your time immersed in the incredible spectacle before returning to your camp as the sun sets over the endless plains.
Day 3: Departure.
On the final last opportunity to experience the magic Serengeti. Wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will have the en-route morning game drive, this is the time that offers you the excellent for the predator sightings as the air cool makes them more active.
After the you will be driven to the local airstrip for your fight back to Arusha or onward connection to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). This safari concludes with the incredible memory of witnessing one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the earth.
